Syllabus

This year, Computer Science is a quarter elective class for all grades.  Sixth grade students will be introduced to the following software programs:  Office Suite, MicroWorlds EX, Flash and perhaps Photoshop. Grades are based on the completion of projects designed using the various software programs.  Generally, students work on about three projects in Word, one in Excel and Powerpoint, and two in Microworlds Ex.  If there is time, Flash and Photoshop will be introduced also.

In the 7/8th combo classes, students will use the same programs the 6th grade classes do, but at a more advanced level.

Grades are based on not only the completion of a project, but also the execution of the project based on the project grading rubric.  Points are awarded for each project.  Grades are based on a typical grading scale.

The nature of technology suggests a curriculum that is fluid and, because of this, an assignment may be modified with the result being that one quarter maay differ sightly from another.

If a student misses class, work can be made up during brunch, lunch, or homeroom.  This is the only way a student can make up work, due to the “hands-on” nature of this class.
